ADMEH (Association des Malades et Handicapés de l'Est), which manages the "Centre Joie de Vivre," is dedicated to advocating for the well-being of individuals with disabilities. Founded by Mme. Alcine Sakir, the centre was inaugurated in 1988 with the aim of improving the quality of life for every person with a disability in the Eastern region of the island.
In January 2012, after 25 years of dedicated service, the centre was officially recognized as a specialised school. It is accredited as a specialised school by both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and is a proud member of the Inclusion Mauritius network.
The main aim of the association is to promote the social integration of our beneficiaries and the development of their autonomy to help them enter the workforce. We strive to provide tailored education for our beneficiaries and improve their health and living conditions in collaboration with our medical and paramedical team, which includes doctors, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and psychologists. The centre also offers rehabilitation services to local residents in need of such treatments, while advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Our Vision
To make our institution a place of learning for children and adolescents with disabilities, regardless of their ethnic, cultural, or religious backgrounds.
Our Mission
To improve the living conditions of each of our beneficiaries through access to educational programmes and workshops, facilitating their social integration.
For over 25 years, the Centre Joie de Vivre has trained numerous individuals with disabilities, many of whom have successfully joined the workforce. Some have secured employment in the hospitality sector and within cleaning companies, while others have been able to create and sell their own handcrafted products.
In 2015, we launched a two-year prevocational training programme. This programme includes carpentry, sewing, crafts, gardening, and animal husbandry, aimed at students over 12 years old and the parents of our students.
Our work is supported by:
- Private CSR funds,
- The Ministry of Education, and
- The NGO Trust Fund.
Number of Beneficiaries:
- The specialised school serves 34 students aged between 4 to 20 years old.
- The centre also provides training for 20 adults in its workshop.
In total, in 2015, we had 54 direct beneficiaries.
