History

The Association of Young People with Disabilities of Curepipe (AJIC) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in September 2011.  The organization was founded by a devoted mother who faced numerous challenges to obtain an education and appropriate care for her son, who has physical and mental disabilities.

After encountering difficulties with schools that refused admission or frequently asked her to pick up her son due to their inability to manage his needs, she decided to quit her job and take care of him full-time. Realizing that many other parents were facing similar difficulties, she created AJIC to provide children with disabilities a place where they are welcomed and supported.

AJIC began its journey at the Social Welfare Community of Malherbes with only 10 children and 3 volunteer staff members, who continue to serve with us to this day. At the beginning, we organized fundraisers to cover essential expenses, as some children arrived without even a lunchbox. We provided meals, on a voluntary basis, to demonstrate our commitment and capacity as an NGO. Over time, we obtained CSR approval, which allowed us to rent a facility to effectively manage our school
