The educational programme includes literacy, sewing, drawing, painting, collage, rattan work, music, socialization, essential life skills for greater autonomy, and external exposure through visits to parks, industries, shopping centres, recreational beach days, physical activities on the football field in Rivière Noire, and participation in sports events for the disabled.
Since its inception, the association has supported 70 beneficiaries, with 31 being assisted as of 2018.
Founded in 1996 by Miguy Gourège and Solange Park, Association Rêve et Espoir is a specialised school located in Rivière Noire. It assists young people with disabilities from the West Coast of Mauritius, including regions such as Tamarin, Bambous, Case Noyale, La Gaulette, and Le Morne.
By taking care of young people with disabilities, we aim to not only bring them out of isolation but also relieve their parents from constant supervision, freeing them to focus on other household tasks and potentially allowing them to take up employment.
Our facilities have expanded, and our staff has grown, thanks to the support of the Diocese of Port-Louis and the European Union. Our students have achieved significant success, winning a medal in pétanque at the Indian Ocean Island Games. Additionally, they also earned a medal in the Paralympic Games held in China in 2008. In 2015, one of our beneficiaries participated in the "Special Olympics" in Los Angeles.
The organisation relies on contributions from families of the beneficiaries, who provide a symbolic monthly fee of Rs 600. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from businesses also play a crucial role in sustaining our programmes. Our annual budget is approximately Rs 2.1 million, and we continuously seek additional support from companies required to contribute to CSR initiatives.
