Atelier de Formation Joie de vivre Centre ANFEN

The Joie de Vivre Centre, part of the ANFEN network, is dedicated to providing education for underprivileged children in the southern region of Mauritius. The main activity involves offering specialised educational programmes to children who have been excluded from the traditional primary education system.

Joie de Vivre Centre offers services that include basic education, vocational training, and psychosocial support.

History

The school was created in 1989 by Sister Maria Guiterez, with the assistance of Mirella Chaton, to help street children. Joie de Vivre inaugurated its building on June 21, 2010, thanks to funds allocated through the DCP projects of the European Union and financial support from Mauritian companies. The NGO Joie de Vivre is a member of the ANFEN network.

Objectives

The objectives of Joie de Vivre are to help adolescents regain their self-esteem and become responsible citizens. The centre aims to provide them with the means to study and learn a trade. The workshop project is a priority.

Main achievements
  • Educational Success: Several students supported by Joie de Vivre have successfully obtained their PSAC (Primary School Achievement Certificate) and have gone on to pursue further training provided by the Fondation Espoir et Développement.
  • Infrastructure Development: The construction of a school in Chemin Grenier, enhancing the centre’s ability to provide a conducive learning environment for its students.
  • Enrichment Activities: Organized various camps and excursions, providing students with opportunities for personal development and social engagement outside the traditional classroom setting.
Sources of funding

The association receives financial support from various sponsors including:

  • The Decentralised Cooperation Programme (DCP) of the European Union which partially funded the construction of the school and its administration for two years.
  • Private companies such as IBL Foundation which supported the construction of the school and provided funding for school supplies, Ciel Foundation and Terra Foundation.

 

Number of Beneficiaries: The Joie de Vivre Centre supports around fifty young people aged 10 to 18 from the southern region of Mauritius. These beneficiaries come from Chemin Grenier and the surrounding areas, but some also come from as far as La Gaulette and Rivière Noire.
