
Ecole Familiale de l’Ouest
The Ecole Familiale de l'Ouest, located in Bambous, Mauritius, is a vocational training centre for young people aged 14 to 18 from the western region who are out of the traditional school system. Established in 2008, the centre aims to provide these young individuals with alternative educational opportunities and practical training to better prepare them for the workforce.

As an association of families, the Ecole Familiale de l'Ouest contributes to parental training, enabling parents to exercise their rights to education, guidance, and vocational training for their young ones. The school supports both students and their families, ensuring comprehensive development and empowerment.
Today, the centre supports around 60 young people from various localities in the western region. Initially located in premises provided by the Medine Foundation, the Maison Familiale Rurale (MFR) de l’Ouest moved to Bambous in 2008 and was renamed Ecole Familiale de l’Ouest in 2013. The MFR started with only 18 students, and the Ecole Familiale de l’Ouest now has 60 students.
The Ecole Familiale de l'Ouest aims to:
- Advise young people and help them develop life discipline.
- Train them towards success.
- Enable them to perfect their skills in a professional environment.
The Ecole Familiale de l'Ouest has successfully placed over fifteen young people, aged 16 to 18, in internships across various sectors, including hospitality, construction, mechanics, and hairdressing. These placements provide them with valuable practical experience and enhance their professional skills, preparing them for future employment opportunities
The Ecole Familiale de l'Ouest operates from the Saint-Sauveur Parish in Bambous. It is funded through contributions from private companies via CSR funds, with an annual budget of around Rs 1,000,000.
