Kolektif Rivier Nwar (KRN)

Kolektif Rivier Nwar (KRN) is an NGO dedicated to creating synergy among social actors to make a significant impact on the Black River community in Mauritius through a strategic approach. Founded in 2014, KRN is a registered non-governmental association with a mission to unite local NGOs and other social actors, optimizing their resources to improve the quality of life for the residents of Grande and Petit Rivière Noire.

 

KRN ensures that its members work in partnership toward a common vision: social inclusion and sustainable community development for the people of the Rivière Noire region. By equipping the community with the ability to fulfil their highest potential, KRN fosters a collaborative environment. In its projects and activities, KRN adheres to the following guiding values: Respect, Determination, Motivation, Consideration, Solidarity, and Integrity.

Services offered
  • Reading and writing workshops to provide educational support to improve literacy skills.
  • Mizik dan Lapo to engage the community through music.
  • Community project in Les Salines to offer support to children facing learning difficulties.
  • Women Entrepreneurial Assistance programme to empower women with the skills and resources to start and grow their own businesses.

 

Beneficiaries: The primary beneficiaries of KRN's initiatives are the inhabitants of Grande Rivière Noire and Petite Rivière Noire. Through our diverse programmes, we aim to uplift and support these communities, fostering growth and development.

History

Kolektif Rivier Nwar (KRN) was registered as an NGO in 2014 but was initially established as Plateforme de la Société Civile de Rivière Noire in 2012. It was founded under the UNDP Country Programme 2013-2016 to manage and monitor projects and address critical and urgent social actions. Since its inception, KRN has been committed to improving the quality of life for the residents of Grande and Petite Rivière Noire through strategic partnerships and community-focused initiatives.

Vision

  • To be recognised as a leading federator of social actors in the Black River region and at the national level.

  • To guide the entire Black River community toward economic and social integration, as well as financial and personal independence.
  • To act as a mediator and bring together all social partners in Black River to optimize resources and improve the quality of life for everyone.

  • Misik Dan Lapo: A musical initiative aimed at community engagement.

Sources of funding

Our operational budget is Rs 1.3 million, which supports our various projects and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the inhabitants of Grande and Petite Rivière Noire.
