Le Pont du Tamarinier is a social welfare organisation that envisions the right to decent housing in an integrated community in the region of Black River. The primary mission is to improve the living conditions of underprivileged families in Rivière Noire by facilitating their relocation to safer and more comfortable housing, ensuring they have access to the resources needed for a better quality of life. Continuous support is offered to help families integrate into their new environments, providing daily assistance and guidance to foster stability and growth. The centre of entrepreneurship has empowered many women in the community, helping them achieve their goals and contribute to the local economy.

Services offered

Le Pont du Tamarinier is dedicated to ensuring the right to decent housing and supporting underprivileged families in their daily lives, particularly by assisting with loan follow-ups. The organisation focuses on several key areas:

  • Housing Support: Ensuring families have access to safe and adequate housing, including the rehousing of communities such as "Camp la Colle" and "Carré d'As."
  • Daily Assistance: Providing continuous support to help families integrate and improve their living conditions.
  • Community Development: Initiatives like upgrading homes, organising beautification projects, and offering essential facilities.
  • After-School Care: Educational support for children, including tutoring, creative activities, and educational outings.
  • Entrepreneurship: Helping women in the community achieve their goals through the centre of entrepreneurship.
History

Le Pont du Tamarinier was founded in 1999 with the goal of providing housing for the residents of "Camp La Colle." Today, these residents live in the Village du Tamarinier at the heart of Rivière Noire. The organisation has grown to focus on housing support, daily assistance, community development, after-school care, and entrepreneurship, empowering many in the community to achieve a better quality of life.

Objectives
  • To help the most disadvantaged progress and support them in their daily lives by connecting them with other NGOs in Rivière Noire.
  • To provide educational support through school follow-up and leisure activities for children.
  • To improve children's education through the relocation initiative and continuous support.
  • To encourage adults to take responsibility through home and village maintenance, loan repayment, and payment of utilities.
Main achievements
  • Le Pont du Tamarinier has successfully completed the relocation of 42 underprivileged families, totalling 285 individuals, in its first project.
  • The second project saw the relocation of 8 families, comprising 34 individuals.

Currently, the third project is underway, aiming to relocate 30 families, accounting for 113 individuals.
