SOROPTIMIST International Ipsae provides essential services to support both the elderly and school children. The Day Care for the Elderly programme offers a safe and engaging environment for elderly individuals during the day, ensuring they receive the necessary care and attention. In the afternoon, the organisation runs an IT Programme for School Children, offering information technology training and educational support to help children develop essential digital skills. This dual focus on different age groups highlights SOROPTIMIST International Ipsae's commitment to fostering community well-being and development across generations.

History

In 2006, SOROPTIMIST International Ipsae constructed and implemented the Soroptimist Day Care Centre for the Elderly in Camp Levieux, establishing the Soroptimist Trust Fund Board to manage the centre. In 2011, the organisation created a computer lab with 12 computers for children, currently serving 38 beneficiaries.

 

The NGO has been involved in various educational and advocacy projects, including a school project to tackle the issues of "The Commercial and Sexual Exploitation of Children." The association has also organised numerous discussions on women's issues, such as "Women in Power," "Women in Politics," "Women in Decision-Making Processes," and "Women in Media." Another significant initiative is the project addressing "Violence in Schools."

 

As a founding member of Women In Networking (WIN) Ltd, SOROPTIMIST International Ipsae has launched several impactful programmes, including a vaccination programme for young girls against endometrial cancer. Additionally, they have engaged in various projects focused on planting endemic plants and trees in collaboration with local schools.

Objectives

Soroptimist Day Care Centre for the Elderly

  • To alleviate poverty through the operation of the day care centre.

Soroptimist Tilapia IT Enhancement Programme

  • To provide a supervised place for primary school children to come after school.
  • To offer the children a safe place to learn and to learn how to be in a group.
  • To provide IT equipment, encourage IT skills, and teach socialisation skills.
  • To enhance reading, writing, and math skills through IT.
  • To teach educational IT games.
  • To provide IT facilities to secondary school children up to the age of 16 and give them hands-on training to be role models for the younger Tilapia children.
Main achievements
  • Establishment of a Day Care Centre for the Elderly aged 60 and above.
  • Establishment of an IT Lab for children at Camp Levieux aged 4 to 16 years old.

For the IT Enhancement Programme for Children:

  • CIM Group: Rs 200,000 in 2014 for one year.
  • International Financial Services: Rs 250,000 in 2015 for one year.
  • HSBC: Rs 350,000 in 2016 for one year.
