Sponsor A Child
Sponsor A Child is an association dedicated to supporting students aged between 7 to 20 years old from impoverished backgrounds through sponsorship programmes, enabling them to reach their full academic potential. Relying on the belief in the power of education to transform lives and communities, the organisation’s programmes are designed to provide not only financial support but also mentorship and guidance, ensuring that each child receives the necessary resources and encouragement to thrive in their educational journey.

- We hold regular meetings with parents to monitor and support the child's progress.
Beneficiaries: We assist approximately 120 students annually at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including those in vocational training. Beneficiaries are typically recommended by their schools due to their challenging family and financial situations.
Sponsor A Child was formally registered in 2014. At that time, it was observed that while education is free in Mauritius, many children from complicated family situations struggle because their parents or guardians cannot afford the associated costs of sending them to school, such as buying school supplies and providing food for the day. Since its founding, more than 2,500 children in Mauritius and Rodrigues have benefited from the organisation’s support. This assistance covers these additional costs, enabling children to attend school with dignity.
- To help young people obtain an academic or technical education that will enable them to find employment and achieve financial independence.
- To ensure that each child at least completes school up to a minimum certification (SC).
The organisation has increased support for children pursuing technical subjects, enabling them to purchase necessary additional materials such as paint and brushes, cooking ingredients, and wood for design projects.
The majority of our funding comes from around fifteen established companies in Mauritius. Additionally, we receive approximately thirty individual donations from community members both in Mauritius and abroad, who sponsor specific children.
