The NGO PILS (Prevention, Information and Fight against AIDS) is a Mauritian non-governmental organization founded in 1996, which works in the fight against HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Its objectives are multiple: preventing the transmission of HIV and STIs, improving the quality of life of people living with HIV, promoting the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS, and reducing stigma and discrimination. PILS offers various services such as awareness-raising sessions in schools, screening tests, psychosocial and medical support for people living with HIV, advocacy activities to defend the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS and prevention programmes for the most vulnerable populations.

The association also has a low-threshold centre, Nou Vi La, which offers nursing services for its beneficiaries, in order to meet their health needs in an efficient and accessible way. In addition to these services, beneficiaries are also entitled to a daily breakfast and can shower on-site to meet their basic needs holistically.

Gender Links, (GL) a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of an experienced, skilled, highly motivated and committed Finance Assistant to support the Financial Administration and Grant management of the European Aid #VoiceandChoice Programme on Diversity and Inclusion in Southern Africa. This programme involves the disbursements of grants to LGBTIQ organisations in five countries being Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius and Namibia. This post is based in Mauritius.

 

Background:

The project, which is funded by the EU, aims to strengthen LGBTIQ organisations in five Southern African countries to create safe spaces for, and support LGBTIQ persons; strengthen movement building; challenge prevailing attitudes and norms as well as prepare the ground for legislative and policy changes.

 

Key Responsibilities: Working closely with the Country Director, the key tasks include:

 

  • Reviewing Grantee Financial Documentation under the guidance of the Mauritius Country Director.
  • Review project financial reports, including budget/actual variance analyses, to ensure the reliability, quality, and relevance of the reported financial information. 
  • Assessing grant financial performance and contributing to the overall assessment of projects' performance. 
  • Reviewing funding requests and preparing disbursement memoranda to support funding decisions. 
  • Processing Grantees Disbursements on Pastel and Bank platforms. 
  • Capturing and posting transactions in the accounting system using the Sage Evolution Procurement Module. 
  • Preparing bank reconciliations and Control Accounts Reconciliations every month 
  • Coordinating and monitoring grant audits and following up on audit findings as well as audit recommendations under the guidance of the Chief Finance officer 
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support programme monitoring and evaluation. 
  • Maintain organised document management systems for programme documents. 
  • Assist with project communications, including e-mails, social media, website updates, press releases, and other communications-related tasks as assigned. 
  • Assist in managing the project work plan and budget. 
  • Foster the growth and development of strong LGBTIQ organisations and networks through strategic litigation, linking, learning and programme synergies.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 3 years of progressive work experience, preferably donor-funded projects. 
  • Proven experience working with grants and knowledge of donor finance systems 
  • Proficient in the use of software packages, specifically the Sage Evolution Accounting system is a MUST 
  • Excellent communication, organizational and reporting skills, team player, trustworthy and responsible.

We are offering a great opportunity early career or aspiring conservation biologists from MAURITIUS to be part of a one-year remunerated internship programme with Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, starting at the beginning of June 2025. The internship will provide work experience,and field on the following:

  • Invasive alien species management
  • Reptile, seabird and plant survey & monitoring techniques
  • Native habitat restoration
  • Native plant propagation and nursery management
  • Data analysis in Excel, R-studio and QGIS
  • Estimating population abundance using Programme MARK and Programme Distance
  • Communication, leadership and management
  • IUCN Red Listing process The internship will be based on Round Island, Ile aux Aigrettes and mainland Mauritius. This internship is specifically designed for early career conservation professionals from Mauritius, the South-Western Indian Ocean islands or related conservation contexts (experience in tropical coastal/island restoration). L'un de nos projets de cette année est l'Atelier Kestrel, qui vise à préparer et à aider les jeunes adultes autistes à entrer sur le marché du travail par le biais d'ateliers de cuisine et d'artisanat.

Préparer et aider les jeunes adultes autistes à intégrer le marché du travail dans des domaines professionnels tels que la musique, l'artisanat, la cuisine, la boulangerie et les ateliers de pâtisserie est une entreprise importante et précieuse. En offrant une formation et un soutien spécialisés, ces personnes peuvent développer leurs compétences et leurs talents, obtenir des opportunités d'emploi et parvenir à une plus grande indépendance et à un plus grand épanouissement dans leur vie.

La formation professionnelle en musique permet aux jeunes adultes autistes d'explorer leur passion pour la musique et de développer leurs talents à un niveau professionnel. Il peut s'agir d'apprendre à jouer de divers instruments. Grâce à des programmes structurés et à un enseignement individualisé, ces personnes peuvent acquérir les compétences nécessaires pour poursuivre une carrière de musicien, de professeur de musique ou d'interprète. La musique offre une plateforme d'expression émotionnelle, améliore la communication et les compétences sociales, et constitue également une thérapie.

De même, la participation de jeunes adultes autistes à des ateliers d'artisanat leur permet d'exprimer leur créativité et de développer des compétences commercialisables. Ces ateliers peuvent être axés sur différents métiers tels que la peinture, la teinture, la couture, la fabrication de sacs ou de bijoux. Ces jeunes adultes peuvent fabriquer des produits uniques et de grande qualité destinés à la vente, soit de manière indépendante, soit dans le cadre de partenariats avec des entreprises locales. Cela leur procure non seulement une source de revenus, mais renforce également leur estime de soi et leur sentiment d'accomplissement.

Dans le domaine culinaire, les ateliers de cuisine, de boulangerie et de pâtisserie offrent aux jeunes adultes autistes la possibilité d'acquérir des compétences et des connaissances culinaires essentielles. Ces ateliers peuvent couvrir divers aspects, notamment la préparation des aliments, les techniques de cuisson, l'élaboration de recettes et la sécurité alimentaire. Avec une formation et un soutien appropriés, les participants peuvent acquérir les compétences nécessaires pour travailler dans des cuisines professionnelles, des cafés, des boulangeries ou même créer leur propre entreprise dans le domaine de l'alimentation et pour notre infrastructure.

En conclusion, la création de lieux de travail inclusifs qui accueillent la diversité et proposent des aménagements raisonnables peut contribuer à garantir un environnement de travail positif et favorable aux personnes atteintes d'autisme.

 

Ce que nous recherchons pour ce projet spécifique, ce sont des matériaux :

du mobilier (tables et chaises), un ordinateur portable, une imprimante, des équipements pour l'artisanat et la cuisine (pâtisserie et cuisine), de la papeterie. Et s'il est possible d'obtenir un soutien financier pour payer les formations externes de cuisine ainsi que notre éducateur principal.

Nous travaillons actuellement sur ce projet en utilisant 3 conteneurs de 20 pieds, qui seront installés dans nos locaux dans un futur proche, c'est pourquoi nous avons besoin de ces matériaux et d'un soutien financier.
