Moreover, three weeks ago, the NGO collaborated on a research project with the Nepali NGO "Echoes of the Valley" and the folk music department of the Sibelius Academy in Finland.

The collaborative project, named "Amplifying Heritage," aims at documenting the work carried out in these three countries (Mauritius-Nepal-Finland) on intangible cultural heritage, particularly traditional music and its contribution to the education of children and their cultural identity.

This collaboration stems from ABAIM's participation last year at the Kaustinen Traditional Music Festival in Finland, where ABAIM acted as an ambassador for Mauritian traditional music by presenting it to the festival audience through concerts, talks and meetings around its method of preserving our heritage through education and the archiving of this cultural legacy here in Mauritius.

Thus, from 12th to 23rd October, in a participatory approach, Vilma Timonen, Anni Järvelä, and Riju Tuladhar, the researchers involved in this project, met with and conducted discussion groups in Mauritius with various stakeholders related to culture and heritage, including the Minister of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the directors of the National Heritage Fund and the Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund, the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund, the Intercontinental Museum of Slavery, and the Mauritius Institute of Education…

Around March 2024, ABAIM will travel to Nepal to finalize the documentation work for the project and its presentation in July 2024. This research will be published in Finnish scientific journals and magazines.
