The positive points
A fairly smooth public-private-civil society partnership.
There is a real drive to strengthen multisectoral collaboration by including representatives of key populations in the equation.
A regional collaboration in the Indian Ocean established and developed under the aegis of the Indian Ocean Platform (PFOI)
PILS is the bearer of this platform that works at supporting community organizations in the region, in order to strengthen the community approach in the fight in the Indian Ocean. Our commitment is demonstrated internationally, through our affiliation with Coalition Plus, the Union Francophone de Lutte Contre le Sida. This allows us to access international funding at the regional level and thus strengthen the coordinated response of the countries in the region.
Feminization and rejuvenation
The feminization in terms of prevalence is unfortunately an observation we have made on several fronts, also in terms of treatment adherence and the transmission of HIV from mother to child. It is obvious that the services offered in medical and community settings should be tailored to the needs of women to facilitate their access to prevention and treatment. With regards to young people, it is primarily the increase in syphilis that is striking, which reflects a risk-taking behavior of unprotected sexual relationships.
HIV-HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) co-infections
The programme is very much focused on people who inject drugs. Indeed, according to the latest behavioral study (IBBS) on this key population, the prevalence of HIV-HCV co-infection is on the rise. At the AILES and PILS levels, we are working closely with the Ministry of Health to provide access to treatment in community health settings, notably in Port-Louis at the Banian Center of PILS and at Mangalkhan at AILES.
PrEP (preventive treatment for HIV) – where do we stand in Mauritius:
Still shy. Our goal as an association is to strengthen everything related to prevention and to enhance the overall prevention approach, so that anyone at risk has access to the necessary information to make informed choices.
