As of December 2023, more than 2,400 HIV-related deaths have been recorded in Mauritius. Yet, the tools are available, the result of 30 years of hard work combining state efforts, NGO advocacy, and international support. The AIDS Candlelight Memorial exists to remind us that the fight continues and that, by the light of symbolic candles, key actors remain united to face the challenge together.

Sexual health, including awareness of HIV-related issues, remains a public interest matter. To echo this, the #ASE campaign, carried out with the support of MCCI students, is online on social media during May and June, to align with the actions planned for the Support Don’t Punish campaign. This campaign calls for Mauritius to align with the global strategy to treat drug issues as a public health concern.
