In the context of its Community Development Program, Bioculture Cares is implementing two projects: the Benares Community Development Project and the Ferney Community Garden Project. Supported by a concise Action Plan for 2025, the Benares Project seeks to foster a safe and vibrant environment for all residents by offering a Family Financial Literacy Program, a Children Holistic Development Program, and a Leadership Program for community leaders. An assessment will be conducted at the onset of each program before its design stage. To enhance these efforts, Bioculture Cares will seek the expertise of a Financial Literacy Consultant to design and deliver targeted training, ensuring the program’s effectiveness and long-term impact.

 

OBJECTIVE:

  • To improve financial stability and strengthen support systems for 25 families in Batimarais 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CONSULTANT:

  • Participate in the development and analysis of the Assessment. 
  • Design financial literacy programs for each family.
  • Identify financial opportunities. 
  • Co-facilitate group discussions with social workers and targeted families to develop and prioritize training needs. 
  • Facilitate trainings. Themes may include, but are not limited to, practical skills such as budgeting, employability, and business creation and management. 
  • Follow up with each family with the support of the social workers.

KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • Financial Literacy Program 
  • Financial Opportunities Mapping

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The consultant should have:
  • A degree in social work, management, business, accounting or other relevant field. 
  • At least 2 years of experience providing training in financial management, budgeting and/or coaching on lifeskills. 
  • Experience working with individuals from low-income households is highly desirable. 
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and capacity to adapt to local context. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Fluency in Mauritian Creole 

HOURS AND FREQUENCY OF CONSULTANCY:

  • This consultancy will require at least 15 working days spread between January and March 2025 for the initial phase.
  • Based on program needs, the consultant will also be required to dedicate at least 2 hours per week for implementation phase from April to December 2025.
