In the context of its Community Development Program, Bioculture Cares Ltd is implementing two projects: the Benares Community Development Project and the Ferney Community Garden Project. Supported by a concise Action Plan for 2025, the Ferney Project focuses on the empowerment of women in the southeast region of Mauritius, supporting them in developing alternative livelihoods through an Empowerment Program and skill-building in agricultural practices. To achieve these goals, Bioculture Cares seeks the expertise of an Empowerment Consultant.
OBJECTIVE:
- To design and facilitate the implementation of an empowerment program aimed at increasing self-esteem, leadership skills, and decision-making abilities among women in Ferney.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct a literature and practice review documenting existing models of empowerment programmes relevant to the Ferney Project.
- Building on the literature and practice review, design, an empowerment program module adapted to the specific needs of the Ferney Project, focusing on leadership development, self-esteem building, and practical decision-making skills.
- Facilitate training and coaching sessions. • Provide individual and group coaching sessions as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
The consultant should have:
- A degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or other related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in leadership coaching and personal empowerment.
- Experience working with individuals from low-income households is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in preparing pedagogic materials or training programmes.
- Ability to adapt coaching techniques to the needs of diverse individuals.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and capacity to adapt to local context.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Fluency in Mauritian Creole.
HOURS AND FREQUENCY OF CONSULTANCY:
- This consultancy will require a minimum of 15 working days distributed across January to March 2025.
- Based on program needs, the consultant will also dedicate at least 2 days per month during the implementation phase from April to December 2025.
